Conclusion

With the Sennheiser e945, the Shure SM58 and the AKG D5 there are 3 excellent stage microphones on the market. While I can highly recommend all of them, it’s only in the singers’ personal taste, which one he likes best.

For me it’s so unreal that you get an affordable microphone, that’s also been used by superstars. No need to stick to your plastic toy – get a real mic and rock the stage!

I hope you found this review useful. As always, I would love to hear your opinion.

What’s your favorite microphone? And why?

Sincerely
Felix

  1. This is exactly in time for what I am looking for. I just bought not so cheap microphone for my daughter but I’m not satisfied with the quality. Thanks for this review I now have idea on other mic brands. I will definitely consider this on my next shop.

  2. Hi Felix,
I’m wondering which, if any of these microphones you’d recommend for instrumental solos. I’ve got two daughters who’ll be playing some gigs with their violins soon and we’re in the market for something that will not harshen their sound.

    1. In general, all of them are also suitable for instruments. Speaking of harshness, I would assume you go for the SM58, as it serves the most round sound.

  3. SM58 all the way. The amount of times I’ve seen it take a hit by being thrown, dropped or knocked over and still manage to work is incredible!

  4. Hi. Excellent article. It caught my eye , not so much for me, but for a friend of singer friend of mine. I’m not sure of the microphone she uses now, but I’m pretty sure that the ones you reviewed have a few more features. She has been using the one she has ever since I have known her, and I am sure it could use some upgrading. The light weight alone should be of interest to her, since she usually plays about six nights a week. Generally she is in a duo, playing the casino circuit in Nevada. I will point her in the direction of your article and maybe we will both get some “kudos”. Thanks much!

    1. Thank you Lightnin for reading my article. I’m sure, your friend will greatly benefit from an mike upgrade!

  5. Great review. I tried all of them.

SHURE SM58 – A famous mic. It is also the worst sounding out of them all. You can still make it sound great, but you need a experienced tech and a good preamp. The other 2 mics sound great “from the box” and they do not need so much EQ.

AKG D5 – Awesome mic. Best budget option. Sound is nice and clear, but it sounds bit compressed on my voice. The signal is pretty hot, so you do not have to drive your preamp too much. The design of the mic is pretty ugly. 🙂

Sennheiser E945 – My main mic. Very detailed and full sound. A bit sibilant.

I would reccomend you AKG D5 ( budget option )and Sennheiser e945 ( if money is not a problem ). I am not a fan of Shure 58, but it does the job.

    1. Hi Goran,

Thanks for sharing your personal opinion and experiences.

      Appreciate it.
