Back in the day when I started taking vocal lessons it wasn’t always easy.

You see, I worked a 9-to-5 office job and sometimes… I even had to spend my weekends to do some extra work.

As it turned out, the only time left for my voice lessons was on a Tuesday 7 p.m.

So, every Tuesday after a full working-day I would get into my car and drive one long hour to my teacher’s place.
Where I would then dive into some deep vocal work before I could call it a day.

Usually I was pumped and really looking forward to my lessons.

You know, I always loved singing. And especially in times where my voice improved at breakneck speed, I couldn’t wait for the next lesson.

But there were other days too…

When I Just felt tired from working like a dog…
Or when I was in a bad mood because of some personal stuff…
Or when my voice wasn’t in perfect shape (maybe I caught a cold or was out for some drinks the night before)

In other words…

Sometimes I’d rather head straight home and turn on the TV…
Than torturing myself with scales, breathing exercises, and harsh critique from my teacher

But did this stop me from showing up?

Not at all.

Because…
When I started singing I committed to myself that I will do ANYTHING to keep moving forward.I really had this burning desire from day 1 – and surprisingly it never vanished.

Now here’s the truth…

If you are a fair-weather singer, you will only practice if everything’s in perfect place

Your voice…
Your mood…
Your energy…

Fair enough. But I highly doubt this will get you anywhere.

You will remain dabbling in singing…instead of mastering your voice.

Because…
If you are serious about singing, building your voice, reaching your goals,..whatever.

Then you will not let anything get in the way.
You’ll go through the shitty days…
You’ll take all the punches…
Rise and fall.

But that’s what separates the wheat from the chaff.

So, ask yourself. What kind of singer are you? A fair-weather singer…or a serious, whatever-it-takes vocalist?

Honestly, I hope the latter.

Because by committing and going deep…
You will discover true artistry…and develop your voice to it’s full potential.

And that my friend it’s what it’s all about.

Are you in?
