It always hits me when I hear about what’s holding people back from working on their voice.
Even if they would love to…and keep thinking about it year in, year out.
You see, I’ve been there, too.
And I know what you tell yourself…
“I’m not cut out for this.”
“I don’t have a voice.”
“I can’t sing on pitch”.
“Singing lessons are made for people who already can sing”
And so on, and on.
And from my own experience I can tell you…that’s totally B.S.
And it also makes me sad…
Because, if you’re like me, then it’s not “Yeah, I would like to sing better, but if it’s not happening I don’t bother either.”
It’s more something like this…”I HAVE to improve my voice, so that I can sing at that level I’m dreaming about. And it physically hurts me being so torn about it and not being right now where I think I’m supposed to be.”
So, let’s get this out of the way once and for all…
Even if you’re totally untalented and can’t sing a straight note whatsoever, the right singing system can fix that.
But there ARE some traits that you must have, if you want to improve your voice… and become the unique singer you want to be.
1) You have to be a living, breathing human being.
If you have a tongue, teeth (pushed-forward front teeth are even better), a diaphragm and vocal cords…you’re equipped with everything you need for singing. Period.
2) Unconditional love for singing and music.
Actually that’s the strongest and most important prerequisite. Simply, because it’s your big, fat WHY. The reason you’ve been embarking on that journey in the first place. And it will carry you through the tough times everyone who’s learning a new skill is going to face.
3) Unshakeable persistence.
I’m not sugar coating anything here. Learning how to sing can be a thrilling rollercoaster ride. At least in the beginning where not everything is stable and you don’t produce those beautiful notes consistently.
Being persistent and keeping moving forward will eventually let you reap the rewards for your efforts. But if you can’t stand criticism (that’s inevitable) or not meeting your own expectations regularly…than you’d probably better off doing something else.
But here’s the good news….
If you have that unconditional love for singing I’ve been talking about, unshakable persistence will follow naturally. The love of becoming the singer you want to be will easily outweigh any sulking ego.
There you go.
What do you think? Do you have what it takes to get to your dream voice?
If it’s a “Yes”, then congratulations.
That’s it for today.

P.S. I’ve one more thing to add.
There’s this really cool, inspirational video from a dead-serious, unknown actor called Jim Carey.
If you’re interested in getting some goosebumps and pure wisdom words from an insanely great artist…go watch it.
Don’t procrastinate it. We both know if you’re not going to watch it right NOW…you never will.
